As one of RRRG's electrical officers I will write about my specialist field as well as general reports of work on site.

Work party report 8th December 2024

Richard Dale, Mark Burrows, Jay Hirst and I on were on site. Mark barred the power unit round, oiled the turbos and, with Jay's help, adjusted some of the tarpaulins on Repulse, which had shifted in the high winds the previous weekend. Richard began testing of the warning lights on the rear cab bulkheads, which involved disconnecting the positive control circuit cable from the equipment that's not being tested so only the fault indication lights will become 'Live' when we connect the 110 volts. This allows us to carry out the commissioning safely and under some degree of control. After the fault indication lights, the next items to be commissioned will be the brake selector switch, brake indication lights and the electropneumatic valves on the brake frame.I finished connecting the CU5 rad fan electronic unit, and tidied up the wiring. This will be the last workparty of the year, we will return to site in January.

During December, the same contractor who made new air filter frames for us had a new set of securing brackets made for the large bolts that hold the power unit in place. These brackets prevent the bolts from coming loose. He also made a replacement adjuster, and two spares, for the power unit governor destined for Repulse, as the one fitted was found to have broken, probably from being stood on at some point. This is shown in the cover picture to this report.
